On May 21, Sweden won the 2017 Men’s Ice Hockey World Championship defeating Canada. It was a very exciting game. The two countries were tied at 1-1, and the game went to overtime. Still a tie, and the game had to go to a shootout. Final score was 2-1.
Sixteen countries participated in the Championship games which were held in Germany and France. The tournament is held annually. Ice hockey is believed to have originated in Canada in the mid-1800s. You can watch Sweden’s march to the gold here.
