Rouhani has been the president since 2013. The President of Iran is the second-highest ranking official in the country. The highest is the country’s “Supreme Leader”, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Iran is home to one of the world’s oldest continuous major civilizations, since around 4000 BC. The country was known as Persia until 1935, and its official language is still called Persian. Tehran is the capital of Iran.
