World’s largest hotel company

Marriott International acquired Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, creating the world’s largest hotel company. Marriott has more than 5,700 hotels and 1.1 million rooms in over 110 countries across the globe. Some of its hotel brands are Bulgari Hotels and Resorts, the Ritz-Carlton, JW Marriott, Westin, Le Méridien, Renaissance Hotels, Sheraton, and Residence Inn.

The company Marriott had its beginnings as a root beer stand, when it was founded by newlyweds J. Willard and Alice Marriott in 1927 in Washington D.C., the capital of the United States.
