Forbes, an American magazine, published its annual list of the “World’s Most Powerful People” for 2015. The number one spot went to the Russian President Vladimir Putin (image) followed by the German Chancellor Angela Merkel. The American President Barack Obama was third on the list and the leader of the Catholic Church Pope Francis had the fourth spot. The Chinese President Xi Jinping was the fifth on the list. The top 5 spots went to the same people the last two years (though the order has changed). Putin has held the top spot for three years in a row now. This year, there are 73 slots on the list. Why 73, you might ask? Earth’s population is approximately 7.3 billion, so the list has one slot for every 100,000,000. You can view the list here and watch a video here.
The youngest person on the list is Facebook’s CEO Mark Zuckerberg (age 31 years). The founder of the Alibaba Group, Jack Ma, is also on the list. Forbes has been publishing this list since 2009. There were 67 slots on the list in 2009 as the population of the world around that time was about 6.7 billion.
