Trouble in Burkina Faso

The prime minister and president of Burkina Faso were attending a meeting. Soldiers who are part of a military unit marched in and arrested both of them. The military unit has declared that it is in control. Last year, the country’s president, Blaise Compaore, was forced to step down by the people of the nation. He had been in power for 27 years. An interim government had taken over, and elections to select a new president were scheduled for next month. The interim leaders had banned people who had supported Compaore to take part in the elections. The military unit, after taking control, announced that the elections will be held soon, and everybody will be allowed to take part in the elections.

The name of Burkina Faso’s capital city, Ouagadougou, has three sets of the vowels “ou”.  A citizen of the country is called Burkinabe.
