The 2015 Australian Open, a world famous tennis tournament, took place from January 19 to February 1 in Melbourne, Australia. Novak Djokovic (from Serbia, image) beat Andy Murray (from UK) to win the men’s singles title. This was his 5th Australian Open title. Infact, Murray and Djokovic had contested the Australian Open final in 2013 and 2011, with Djokovic the winner both times. Will they both be playing in the final again in 2017?
The women’s singles winner was Serena Williams (from USA, image). She beat Maria Sharapova (from Russia). This was Williams’ 6th Australian Open title. Bethanie Mattek-Sands (from USA) and Lucie Safarova (from the Czech Republic) won the women’s doubles title. Simone Bolelli (from Italy) and Fabio Fognini (from Italy) won the men’s doubles title. Martina Hingis (from Switzerland) and Leander Paes (from India) won the mixed doubles title.
The Australian Open is held every January and is one of the four Grand Slam tennis tournaments (the other three are the French Open, US Open, and Wimbledon).
A couple of jokes:
Why should you never fall in love with a tennis player? To them, “Love” means nothing.
Why are fish never good tennis players? They don’t like getting close to the net.
Did you know?
