Croatia’s first female president

Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic (image) won the Croatian presidential election. She will become the nation’s first female president. Croatia used to be part of a country called Yugoslavia and became an independent nation in 1991. Croatia is the only country with the name of its capital city starting with the letter “z”. Its capital city is Zagreb. One of Croatia’s contributions to the world is the necktie. Croatian soldiers wore a scarf around their necks in the 1600s, and the fashion spread to France and other countries in Europe. Many believe that the Dalmatian dog originated from the region of Croatia called Dalmatia. However, it is unknown as to where the spotted dog actually originates from.

Want to be unique? Well, tie your necktie in a different way. Here are two videos – one about how to tie your necktie with a Merovingian Knot  and another about the necktie’s origins.
