World’s Most Powerful People 2014

Forbes, an American magazine, published its annual list of the “World’s Most Powerful People” for 2014. The number one spot went to the Russian President Vladimir Putin (image) followed by the American President Barack Obama. The Chinese President Xi Jinping was third, the leader of the Catholic Church, Pope Francis, was fourth, and the number 5 spot went to German Chancellor Angela Merkel. The top 5 spots went to the same people last year. There are 72 people on the list. Why 72, you might ask? Earth’s population is approximately 7.2 billion, so the list has 1 person for every 100,000,000. You can view the list here and watch a video here.

The youngest person on the list is Facebook’s CEO Mark Zuckerberg (age 30 years). The oldest is the king of Saudi Arabia, Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz Al Saud (age 90 years). The founder of the Alibaba Group, Jack Ma, is also on the list. Forbes has been publishing this list since 2009.
