Enjoy solving crossword puzzles? Well, people have been enjoying them now for a century. The first crossword puzzle, in the form that we know it today, was published on December 21, 1913 in an American newspaper called the New York World. It was created by the British-born journalist Arthur Wynne (1871 to 1945) and was given the name “word-cross puzzle”. The puzzle was in the shape of a diamond grid and came along with clues. On December 21, the Internet company Google put out an interactive puzzle doodle to celebrate 100 years of the crossword puzzle. You can view it here.
