2013 U.S. Open

The 2013 U.S. Open tennis tournament was held from August 26 to September 9 in New York, United States. Serena Williams (from the USA) beat Victoria Azarenka (from Belarus) to win the women’s singles title. At the U.S. Open last year, the same two women played the final match, and the winner was also Williams.

Rafael Nadal (from Spain) beat Novak Djokovic (from Serbia) to win the men’s singles title. At the 2011 and 2010 U.S. Open tournaments, the same two men played the final match, but the winner was Djokovic in 2011 and Nadal in 2010. This win was Nadal’s 13th Grand Slam singles title and Williams’ 17th. The record for the most Grand Slam singles titles for men is held by Roger Federer (17) and for women is held by Margaret Court (24). You get a Grand Slam title by winning any of the four Grand Slam tournaments – the Australian Open, US Open, French Open, or Wimbledon.  You can watch the highlights from the tennis tournament here.
