China is the world’s most populous country today with around 1.35 billion people, followed by India with 1.21 billion. The United Nations estimates that India is going to zoom past China and take over that title around the year 2028, when both the countries will have a population of about 1.45 billion. Currently, the population of Earth is about 7.2 billion, which is expected to grow to around 9.6 billion by 2050.
