On March 5, Hugo Chavez, president of Venezuela, died because of health reasons in Caracas, the capital of Venezuela. He was 58 years old and had been the president of the country since 1999. Venezuela has declared seven days of mourning. Chavez’s parents were school teachers in a small village, and had little money. He was sent to live with his grandmother. At the age of 17, he attended a military academy and went on to join the army. Along with some folks in the army, he tried to overthrow the government in 1992, but did not succeed. He won the elections and became the president in 1999. Chavez was often seen wearing something red (like a red tie or a red shirt). His favorite sport was baseball, which is also the most popular sport in Venezuela.
