Messi breaks a record

On December 9, Lionel Messi, a 25-year old soccer player from Argentina, set a world record for “most goals scored in a calendar year”. He scored his 86th goal for 2012, and beat the record of the famous German soccer player Gerd Mueller who had scored 85 goals in 1972. Messi plays for FC Barcelona, a football club based in Barcelona, Spain, and for the Argentinian National Team. Messi was born in Argentina, and played football for a local youth team. He had a medical issue with growth, and moved to Barcelona at the age of 13, since the football club there agreed to pay for his medical treatment. For all you soccer fans, here is a video showing the 86 goals.
